Her anticipation bubbles like a can of shaken soda pop! It’s time to transition from her winter to spring clothes.
With joy she pulls last spring’s outfits from storage and the process begins. She starts by trying on each outfit and evaluating it in view of a full-length mirror. Her evaluation criteria are simple, “What works?” and “What doesn’t work?”
Outfit one reveals a stain she thought was removed but the mirror tells a different story. Can’t wear this outfit this spring.
Next outfit, her favorite for the last two spring seasons, is showing wear and tear. This outfit can’t be worn this spring.
The next outfit she puts on elicits a “What was I thinking?” Another outfit not suitable for this spring.
Her transition process is completed and her evaluation displays two piles—spring clothes that work and spring clothes that don’t work. Her next step is to replace the pile of clothes that don’t work with new clothes that do.
God’s Child Wears Spring Clothes To Reflect Her Identity In Christ.
As God’s children, we’ve stepped into a season marked by the death and resurrection of Jesus. Isn’t this a perfect time to evaluate how we present ourselves to the world? How should we dress?
Let’s start here…
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Colossians 3:12 (NIV)
What clothes are more beautiful than the clothes of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience? Aren’t these the clothes God’s children should wear to draw souls to Jesus?
Clothes of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience draw souls to Jesus.
Now’s the time to evaluate last spring’s clothes to make sure the world hasn’t stained us; made us weary and worn out; or we’re wearing an outfit that makes us look like a child of the world.
What Application Looks Like
Time to evaluate how we present ourselves to the world using the same criteria, “What works?” and “What doesn’t work?” Only instead of standing before the full-length mirror—stand before the Holy Spirit for a truthful evaluation!

Social media draws Helen in. Family members draw her in. Work colleagues draw her in. Church sisters and brothers draw her in. So many souls and so many of God’s creation.
But she remains grounded because the most important relationship in her life is with Jesus Christ.

Time to evaluate spring clothes to wear for self-care.
Sheri knows to wear the clothes of God’s child she’s got to be clear-headed and self-controlled.
She’s aware that her body is a temple of God and she needs to take care of it to do God’s work. So, she stays vigilant against allowing any habit, food, drug that will impact her mind and self-control.

Time to evaluate spring clothes to protect us from the world.
Linda is aware of the world’s fashions. She’s disgusted by the world’s messages; saddened by the acceptance of these message by many souls and begins to doubt she can make a difference.
But when she remembers she’s God’s child—she grounds herself in prayer, scripture, and fellowship with the body of Christ to keep herself on the right fashion track.

We Pray
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Colossians 3:12 (NIV)
Thank You, Jesus, for showing us what compassion, kindness humility, gentleness and patience look like. Thank You, that because we are Your children, we can clothe ourselves in these attributes to draw souls to You.
Living in this world can cause these clothes to be stained, worn out or we begin to view them as inappropriate to stand in a world rebelling against You.
Those wearing the clothes of the world are esteemed and admired. Our clothes cause the world to mock and ridicule us.
We pray…
We pray for the power of the Holy Spirit to be clothed to draw souls to You.
We pray to be clothed in Your compassion to see the lost and hurting sheep.
We pray to be clothed in Your kindness to touch the untouchable.
We pray to be clothed in Your humility to serve others as God calls us to serve.
We pray to be clothed in Your gentleness when attacked because we’re Yours.
We pray to be clothed in Your patience to persevere and complete the work You’ve called us to do until You bring us home.
In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
