Who Sits On Your Heart’s Throne?

The shelves were covered with history books. Some thick and leather bound with gold letters that hinted at their content. Others tall and slim wore paper covers with photographs that revealed their content.  These books fed her uncle’s appetite for history.

The young girl snatched one from the shelf and opened it. As her inquisitive mind led her to turn the pages, she saw battles fought by men and nations for control of a throne. She saw kings sitting on their throne for a time and battles that removed them. She didn’t stop with one book and her inquisitive mind concluded that unceasing battles were fought to sit on a throne.

Isn’t this a battle Christians face?  Isn’t there a daily battle to see who will sit on the throne in your heart?

A battle is fought daily for control of the throne in your heart.

“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” Colossians 1: 15-17 (NIV)

Jesus is LORD. Jesus is the image of the invisible God and the creator and of all seen and unseen. He has complete authority over His creation and in Him all things hold together.

We are God’s children and because we are in Christ—we have Jesus sitting on our heart’s throne. What a blessed gift this is for us. But we need to be vigilant because there’s a daily battle for control of our heart’s throne.

Jesus is LORD. Jesus sits on the throne in your heart.

What Application Looks Like

A daughter, a born-again Christian, shares her life with a mother who has accepted false teachings that have blinded her to Jesus. The daughter shares the teachings from her Bible grounded church and prays for the right words and actions to reflect to her mother her transformed life. But her mother is blind to the Truth.

The daughter is saddened and discouraged until awakened to the Word that she’s not the one in control of her mother’s belief – this control belongs to the LORD. Her intent was good but she had placed herself on the throne in her heart. Once she placed Jesus on the throne her sadness and discouragement were replaced by hope and peace.

Sarah feasts daily on a buffet that begins with podcast messages; national television news; e-newsletter updates and ends with random online pastries with titles that entice her like a fly to honey.

This daily diet takes its toll and she becomes fearful and depressed because she sees evil winning. What she doesn’t understand is that her heart’s throne is controlled by the world. The result is a Christian with no faith, hope or love.

That’s why we must be vigilant and fight daily the battle to keep Jesus on the throne in our heart.

Jesus is LORD. Jesus sits on the throne in your heart.

We Pray

“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” Colossians 1: 15-17 (NIV)

Jesus, You are LORD. You are the image of God and creator of all seen and unseen. All creation is under Your authority for Your purpose.

How wonderful You call us Your children and to know You are in us and we are in You.

But daily a battle is waged in our heart for control of our life. The world’s prince seeks control. Our self seeks control.

We can’t win this battle alone…

We pray to be vigilant to the spiritual battle seeking to control our heart.

We pray to grow in the disciplines of prayer, reading and meditating on Your Word.

We pray for humility to surrender—daily—our life to You.

We pray to stay faithful to You, Jesus, until the day You bring us home.

In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

A Question for Sisters

Who seeks to control the throne in your heart?  How can you win the battle for Jesus?
